Continental Aerospace Technologies™ Announces Global Certification Efforts for IO-370 Engine

Friedrichshafen, Germany, (April 22, 2026) — Continental Aerospace Technologies™ is pleased to announce its ongoing efforts to expand the global availability of its IO-370 engine. The IO-370 DA3A engine was initially certified for the US market in 2019. The 180 hp engine is a direct drop-in engine replacement for Cessna 172S & select R models.

As part of this initiative, Continental® is working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to support validation of the IO-370 engine and its associated installation supplemental type certificates (STCs) for European customers. These efforts represent a key milestone toward enabling broader adoption of the IO-370 across European markets as well as reinforcing Continental’s promise to deliver proven engine solutions to customers worldwide.

In parallel, Continental® is advancing certification activities in many other countries, including Brazil, in coordination with the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). The engine validation process is currently underway following FAA engagement, with additional steps to follow for installation approvals. While certification timelines vary by authority, these efforts demonstrate a structured and joint approach to expanding access to the IO-370 for these Cessna 172 owners in major international markets.

“Our emphasis is on assuring that customers around the world have access to reliable and efficient engine solutions which meet their functional needs,” said Oliver Leber, Vice President of Global Sales & Applications Engineering at Continental®. “By working closely with the regulatory authorities and interested parties in the region, we are proud to bring a new engine option to Cessna airframes, while preserving the highest standards of safety, performance, and certification integrity.”

The IO-370 engine is designed to deliver dependable performance, functional flexibility, and capability as a drop-in replacement for select Cessna 172 airframe applications. Through collaboration with global aviation authorities, Continental Aerospace Technologies™ is strengthening its ability to provide operators a choice when their engine reaches TBO.
