CD-100 Series with improved maintenance +++ Significant contribution to lower operational costs
Mobile (AL, USA)—Continental Motors Group, an AVIC International Holding Corporation company, today announced a major change approval by the aviation authorities allowing the increase of the gearbox and timing chain lifetime to 1,200 hrs. This lifetime increase affects all CD-135 and CD-155 engines incorporating revision status 2 design changes.

The lifetime increase follows the TBR (time between replacement) extension of the engine to 2,100 hrs, announced in April 2016 at Aero Friedrichshafen. Through key improvements, continuous testing and field experience, both the CD-135 and CD-155 gearboxes now rated to a lifetime of 1,200 hours. This lifetime increase affects all CD-135 and CD-155 engines manufactured since December 1st, 2015, incorporating revision status 2 design changes and further engines as listed in the operation and maintenance manual. Timing chains of new revision status 2 engines are only to be exchanged in case of wear and tear. The first inspection needs to be carried out when the engine time totals 1,200 hours and then needs to be repeated again every 300 operating hours.
The engine TBR of 2,100 hours and the reduction of maintenance and inspection requirements for the gearbox and timing chains are a significant contribution to lower operational cost as well as total ownership costs. Also, down time for maintenance is reduced. The CD-100 family of compression ignition engines are extensively used in flight schools around the world and has been chosen by OEMs such as Cessna Aircraft (Cessna 172 JTA Skyhawk), Diamond Aircraft (DA 40 and DA42), Piper Aircraft (Archer DX) and Robin New Aircraft. Glasair (Sportsman), Mooney Aircraft (M10) also have announced CD-100 models started flight testing and certification. Retrofit kits for many popular airframes are also available.
